Common Mistakes You Should Avoid When Replacing Your HVAC System

As your system ages, it will become less efficient and will have to work harder to meet your home’s heating and cooling demands. Old, malfunctioning HVAC equipment can cause discomfort, poor indoor air quality and increased energy costs. Sometimes, repairs aren’t enough to restore the performance and efficiency of your unit. Fortunately, with the help of a reliable professional, planning an HVAC installation or replacement won’t be as overwhelming.

Here are some of the mistakes that you’ll need to avoid when getting a new HVAC system.

Choosing the wrong unit size for your home. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to HVAC systems. If you choose a larger unit for your home, this doesn’t necessarily mean that it will perform well. If the equipment is too large for your space, you may just end up paying more for energy costs. On the other hand, if you choose one that’s too small, it will have to work harder than it should to give you the results you want, resulting in a shorter lifespan and reduced efficiency. Reputable HVAC service providers will be happy to inspect your home so they can recommend the right size of equipment for it.

Selecting equipment based only on price. Quality, not just price, should be your priority when choosing an HVAC system. You also need to consider operating costs and energy efficiency features when making your decision. It pays to invest in an energy-efficient unit, as this will mean more savings in the long run.

Not working with a reputable installer. Make sure to obtain at least three estimates before hiring a company for your HVAC replacement. This will help you find the most qualified contractor for your project. Only work with professionals with proper licensing, insurance and bonding. Keep in mind that even if you purchase a high-quality unit, it can still perform poorly or fail early when not installed correctly.
