FAQs About Home Heating, Cooling, and Ventilation

Learning more about residential HVAC systems can help you make better future decisions regarding your own heating and cooling system. ACS Air Conditioning Systems has helped local homeowners since 1969, and since that time we have helped answer a lot of HVAC related questions.

In this post, we will discuss a few of the more common questions we have answered.

Q: How Do I Reduce HVAC Energy Costs?

A: There are many ways to reduce your residential property’s energy costs, including upgrading to a high-efficiency HVAC system, installing a programmable thermostat, or changing your furnace filters regularly. The best approach will depend on your home’s structure, the current condition of your heating and cooling system, and on your goals and priorities. A good way to start cutting energy costs, however, is by making sure your HVAC system is regularly cleaned and maintained.

Q: How Long Will My HVAC System Last?

A: The life expectancy of your residential HVAC system will depend on several variables, which you can discover from a comprehensive system inspection. Generally speaking, however, your HVAC equipment’s lifespan depends on the preventive service and maintenance performed on it. Professional inspection and service are necessary at least twice a year to ensure proper HVAC performance. With regular maintenance, you can expect your HVAC system to last for decades.

Q: When Should I Replace My HVAC System?

A: Experts typically advise replacing your HVAC system if it already requires frequent repairs or it’s over 10 years old (or both). Replacement is also a smart choice if has stopped working altogether, it’s running on short cycles, or you’ve used it excessively. The last two can lead to high energy bills that make it more cost-efficient to replace the entire system than to keep using it.
